He even abandons Hilda’s injured brother to help Cheryl, leading to the brother’s death. Later, he saves Cheryl from a fire but causes Hilda to miscarry. Heartbroken, Hilda divorces him and leaves. Only afterward does Kurt discover Cheryl’s deceit and realize whom he truly loves—far too late.
